Churches, Churches everywhere...visit the Kennebunkport Maine churches to understand the importance that religion played in this area.

Now I know not everyone is into religion and if you are you probably have your own religious preference. However Kennebunkport Maine offers a range of churches and religious buildings that reflect the historical importance of religion during the time of the development of the Kennebunkport area.

It is quite fascinatiig to learn about how & why the churches were built as well as their history over time. Take for example The Church on the Cape Kennebunkport. It was constructed in 1857 and still continues to serve the community, but it has a deeper history than that. The first church was built in 1727 but due to the local population on the western part of the river growing faster it was decided to relocate the church from the Cape area. Not all agreed and it was opposed. During this time it was burnt to the ground. It was rebuilt on Burbank Hill which offended the Cape community and they ceased to be actively involved with the church. By 1857 funds were raised to build what is now the Church on the Cape.

All the churches in and around the Kennebunkport Maine area are open for visitors and offer some truly lovely architecture and stained glass windows. Well worth an afternoon of leisurely walking, bike riding or driving around the town and surrounds to visit these churches, learn about the history and take in the architecture.

This is just one activity to partake in while enjoying a Kennebunkport weekend getaway or family holiday. There is a range of Kennebunkport luxury accommodation available and lots of Kennebunkport attractions & things to do. Don't forget the up and coming Kennebunkport Christmas Prelude in Maine with churches offering mass & services for those to enjoy.
